Every cloud has a silver lining and finding it is one of the most reliable ways to turn an apparent problem into a blessing! True wisdom is the ability to see the equal benefit or blessing hidden in every challenge, situation, sickness, or crisis. The silver lining is always as bright as the cloud is dark. And when we see its shining light, we are grateful for the gift of our challenge.

When life is flowing smoothly, we enjoy taking credit for its many opportunities. When we encounter what looks like a problem, we tend to look for reasons outside ourselves. But when we look deeper, we discover that what looked like a problem is actually an opportunity. The way for us to see the opportunity is to lift ourselves to a higher point of view. When we learn to accept – not deny – responsibility for the way we think and feel about daily experiences, we can open our minds to the guidance of our heart and soul.
We are never presented with a so-called problem unless we can solve it, either by ourselves, or with the help of others. An orderly universe doesn’t hand a child struggling with addition and subtraction a complex problem in calculus and demand that the child answer its riddle. We are only gifted with challenges for which we’re prepared, so it’s actually an honor to be handed a complex challenge. It’s our chance to show we’re capable of finding the silver lining and experiencing more benefits and more love. When problems appear in our lives, we benefit from knowing they’re intended to serve a purpose. They’re filled with rich information and many hints of what we’d love to be doing.
As you travel through life and take on the challenges presented by difficult experiences, love dissolves your fears and gives you greater strength. Your experiences are tests on the path of evolution, and each lesson presents you with a new opportunity to learn and to experience unconditional love. But when your mind exaggerates the challenge, your thoughts are dominated – or run – by the situation rather than by you!
The reality is that problems are gifts. They give you a chance to walk from the darkness and heaviness of fear into the brightness and lightness of love. Once you learn that your heart and soul guides you toward whatever you need to resolve the situation, you will know there are really no problems, only opportunities to learn another lesson in love.
Problems can be wonderful transition points. Each trial is a potential stepping stone to greatness. When we learn its lesson of love, we go on to the next lesson, which is generally more challenging as well as more rewarding. Just as passing each grade in school allows us to go up to a more challenging grade, it also offers more rewarding benefits, and eventually graduation. Wise students of life welcome experiences that appear to offer adversity because every imaginary barrier is a personal challenge to grow, and with growth comes a greater sphere of influence, responsibility, and reward.
We discover who we are gradually, through experiences. With hindsight, what appeared to have been the greatest problems are recognized as occurring during the times of greatest growth and self-awareness. This principle holds true not only for individuals, but also for organizations, corporations, countries, the world, and beyond. When we find ourselves, individually or collectively, at the border between order and chaos, we’re poised to experience the greatest growth and evolution.
