Dear Friends and Students,

Some people ask why we have to bring God or Divine Intelligence into it at all. They believe that if we can’t see something it’s safer or even somehow wiser to assume it doesn’t exist. But no scientist on earth has ever seen an atom or a radio wave, and nobody knows what electricity is. Physicists find it nearly impossible to write an equation describing something even as elementary as the stretching of a rubber band because it’s just too complex, and yet no one doubts that these things exist. We are surrounded by mysteries that we assume have been explained simply by naming them, but just naming them does not let us truly know.

Think about this. They now estimate that 3.9 billion years ago living microorganisms and cells existed on Earth, they’ve found their fossils, and even that long ago those cells were so magnificently designed that it boggles the minds of the greatest physiologists today to understand how they were able to function. The most primitive precursors to the modern cell were still more evolved than the most brilliant minds of today can grasp. Even Christian de Duve, the great Nobel Prize winner in biology, hasn’t yet deciphered the mysteries of the living cell. And the further we probe into cellular physiology the more we are amazed at the intelligence that is governing it. How is it that something so evolved, with so much intelligence and order, could have preceded us when we so self-righteously think of ourselves as the highest form of intelligence and order?

In anthropology we find a burin or scraper in a five million year old site, a crudely shaped piece of flint that’s been napped on one side, and we go, “Oh my god, it’s an artificial object! It was made by some sort of an intelligence.”

We’ve found tools going back millions of years and we are perfectly prepared to take those crude objects as certain evidence of the work of a human or pre-human consciousness. To insist that an unbelievably complex cell 3.9 billion years old is the result of chance or some random thermal event without an intelligence governing it, is the height of folly. Each cell is made up of 350 billion molecules, there are six trillion chemical reactions per cell per second, and your body is made up of four trillion cells. With all our intelligence, the greatest human mind in history is incapable or running a single cell. You could link Isaac Newton, Plato, Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking and Boris Spassky together and they still couldn’t do it, they couldn’t even approach it. People talk about admiring the CEO of a major corporation with 50,000 employees, but I see a human body and say, “Now, that’s management.”

They look at a painting or sculpture and say, “That artist is a genius,” but the greatest work of art ever created is a child’s mud pie or finger painting beside the genius and artistry of a human being, the life that fills it, and the Divine Artist who created it.

“People believe a little too easily that the purpose of the sun is to help the cabbages along.”

Gustave Flaubert It’s unbelievable, but because we’re surrounded by life and divinity we take it all for granted, like a fish unaware of the water it lives in. It truly is a miracle, and miracles do not happen by chance alone but by laws and intelligence. That Intelligence is what has set in place the principles that govern life, and it manifests itself in divine order, consciousness, and love. The Deity is not personally involved, it isn’t watching over and judging us any more than it has to personally attend to the movement of every molecule in every cell of every being on all the planets in the universe. The universe is a big place, in fact it is believed to be infinite, and it works like any big organization, by hierarchy and delegation. God is too busy to punish sheep, he just sets up the dynamics of evolution through universal laws and stands back emanating divine love. In that divine order life and death are in perfect balance, and even though it manifests in different forms the life is conserved throughout time and space.

“If one keeps their inner eye open one will see the teaching of truth everywhere, and so one’s opportunities for enlightenment and wisdom are endless.”

Immanuel Swedenborg

Everyone knows that around a 150+ people were killed in the Oklahoma City bombing, but most do not realize what didn’t happen. The suicide, homicide, disease and accidental death rates in that city dropped to balance it and the death rate came out the same as most every other month. All that changed was the form of death, but it was conserved. It was reported in USA Today and The Dallas Star, but anyone who didn’t understand universal laws would think it was just a coincidence. When an earthquake struck Oakland, California and three dozen people died in the freeway collapse, there were too many casualties for one hospital so they were distributed between several in the area. Nine months later the births in those hospitals jumped by the same three dozen over the normal rate, but again it went unnoticed because it’s just too far out for most people to comprehend. There is no death, just a transformation of life.

A young man named Martin Bryant shot 39 people down in Australia, many of them children. That certainly seems like a terrible thing, but there are no isolated events on this planet. Every terrible thing is non-locally connected to a terrific thing, they are the two halves of a single event, the positive and negative sides of truth. Those without breadth of vision will see them as isolated and separate, condemning one and praising the other, while the master stands in humble acknowledgment of the divine order.

One of the children actually left a note that morning in his bedroom that said, “We are not dead, we live in your hearts,” and how is that possible? Somehow he knew.

As a direct result of that shooting their national gun laws were changed and hundreds of thousands of weapons turned in, possibly saving many lives for years to come. The whole country stopped for a moment of prayer that no religion on earth could have accomplished, turning people’s minds to thoughts of immortal spirit and physical mortality. Parents all around that part of the world, when they heard about it, probably held their children close that night when they put them to bed and thought Thank you for being alive. Thank God almighty, I’m grateful I still have you. The life and the love were conserved.

Love and Gratitude,
