Challenging Early Days

Dr John Demartini had much to overcome to reach where he is today.  He was born on Thanksgiving Day in 1954 in Houston, Texas. From an early age he wore hand and leg braces to correct a birth defect. In school he had difficulty reading, writing and speaking which was later diagnosed as dyslexia and a speech impediment. In first grade, his teacher announced to his parents that he would never read, write, communicate, never amount to anything or go very far in life. At the age of 14 Dr Demartini dropped out of school and headed for Hawaii and became a full-time surfer, living hand to mouth.  At 17 he had a near death experience as a result of strychnine poisoning. These early challenges set the scene for a remarkable transformation in his late teens.  

Inspired by a Vision

At age 17 and still on a path to nowhere, he met a 93-year old man called Paul Bragg.  He was the catalyst in awakening his desire to conquer his learning disability, get an education and make a difference in the world. At that time Dr Demartini made a commitment to dedicate his life to the understanding of universal laws as they relate to maximizing human awareness and potential. He picked up his surf board and returned home. 

From Dyslexia to a Life of Study

With focus and determined effort, he broke through his dyslexia and mastered reading and writing. He passed his GED and then wrote his SATS and attained entry level into Wharton Junior College.  He then progressed to the University of Houston where he completed his Bachelors of Science degree in 1978. He went on to study Chiropractic at the Texas Chiropractic College where he graduated with honors - Magna Cum Laude in 1982.

Dr Demartini states: "When you believe you cannot read or learn and you then discover that you can, it awakens an insatiable appetite for knowledge." He has spent a total of 36 years avidly researching over 260 different disciplines. Some of these are: Physics, philosophy, cosmology, theology, metaphysics, psychology, astronomy, mathematics, neurology, physiology, economics, sociology and biology.

Future Vision

Dr. John Demartini's vision is to contribute to the expansion of human potential globally; to seek out and activate further educational opportunities in every country; to empower and awaken leadership in others; to inspire a love of learning and to assist people create authentic, empowered and inspired lives.

The Demartini Institute

In 1982, Dr John Demartini founded the Demartini Institute, a private research and education institute located in Houston Texas.  In 2006, the Demartini Institute expanded into Africa and opened an office in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Accolades

Dr. John Demartini was an invited guest at the Waldzell Conference in Austria (September 2008). This is one of the prestigious meetings of the world's most esteemed leaders on global dialogue for social transformation and inspiration.  As part of the special annual ceremony, Dr. Demartini's work was incorporated as part of a permanent display in the famous library at the Melk Abbey.

Dr. John Demartini received top honor at the Annual (XL) Extraordinary Lives Awards held in Singapore (September 2008). He was honored for his global contribution back to society.
